life drawing sesh, july 30th 2008
Tonight Scott and I hit up figure drawing class. The place was packed!!! Usually there’s only like a dozen or so people in the room, but tonight there was over 30. The guy who kinda runs the show said that it was a record crowd. Scotty and I came late because we were fooling around at work and not watching the time, so we had to sit on the floor. But that was cool; we got some different angles from the ground and I think our session went relatively well. Here’s some of the stuff I did tonight (you might notice it was the same model as we had once before):
robot
Drew this one at drawing club this week. I decided to draw a robot because I pretty much am the worst at drawing robots and I figured I should make a policy of trying to get better at the things I can’t draw. To make it easier on myself I decided to try and make a thumbnail first and then work on just the outline of the full-sized version before I got to filling in the details, and honestly I think the more systematic approach helped quite a bit. Obviously I worked from the top down, because as you get closer to the foot at the bottom right of the page it gets more and more unfinished, hahaha.
I might try and finish this one in photoshop too, we’ll see…
would be nice to get some finished stuff under my belt… but that requires finding the time to do it.

I thought this looked nice, what do you guys think?
Self Portrait
I want to get this whole Photoshop painting thing figured out. So I’m going to start by doing some portraits, and I’ll try to keep them quick. This one took me about an hour and fifteen minutes. Hopefully after a few more, the process will speed up and feel a bit more natural. Right now I rely on the undo button too much!
guns? GUNS!
Today Scotty showed me a blog that a buddy of his has been updating:
http://www.chimpsmack.blogspot.com/
It’s pretty much full of things that are about infinite times better than anything you will ever see me post on here. Kind of embarassing really.
But on the plus side, I totally stole that bastard’s technique where you just start with a black splotch and fill in the details. I tried to make a girl-shaped splotch and go from there… and surprisingly it worked on my first go (“worked” being a subjective term in this case of course, meaning nothing more than “mildly successful IMHO”). Even more surprisingly, I managed to draw a body in a twisted sort of position which is something that for some damn reason has been pretty much stumping me for the last few weeks.
I like this “black blotch” drawing business.
BLACK BLOTCH!
BLAAAACK BLOOOOTCH!!!!
YES.
